Most people figure Medicare out after making a costly mistake.

You've gotten mailers you ignored, questions you haven't answered, and a deadline you're not sure you're tracking. That's where this starts.

Long-Term Care Planning

Medicare doesn't cover long-term care. WA Cares helps — for about 2-3 months. Here's the real picture for Washington residents.

Why Washington residents work with me

As a licensed Medicare advisor serving Pierce County, Thurston County, and Western Washington, I help residents approaching 65 navigate Medicare without making expensive mistakes. I'm a licensed Medicare specialist with Bankers Life, based in University Place and serving people across Pierce County, Thurston County, and Western Washington. I'm independent in my approach — education first, and I work with the carriers that fit your situation.

If Medicare isn't the right move for you yet, I'll tell you so. That's the deal.

One more thing worth knowing: Washington has no state income tax, which means your Social Security, pension, and retirement account withdrawals are only subject to federal taxes. That's a meaningful retirement income advantage that most national Medicare advisors never mention, because they're not from here.

Washington Just Changed the Rules on Long-Term Care

On July 1, 2026, Washington became the first state in the country to pay long-term care benefits through the WA Cares Fund, a lifetime benefit of up to $36,500 for eligible residents.

Most people think that covers them. At $13,000 per month for a private nursing home room in Washington, it covers about two to three months.

Medicare doesn't cover long-term custodial care at all. Understanding where WA Cares fits — where it doesn't — is one of the most important things a Washington resident can know before they retire.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to sign up for Medicare at 65?
Not always. If you have qualifying employer coverage and your employer has 20 or more employees, you can usually delay Part B without a penalty. If you don't have that coverage, you'll want to enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period.
Is the free Medicare review really free?
Yes. There's no charge to talk through your situation, ask questions, or get a second opinion. I'm only paid by a carrier if you choose to enroll through me — and only if a plan is a real fit.
How do I know you're not just going to push me into something?
That's exactly the right question to ask. I work education-first. I'll walk you through your options, explain what each one means for your specific situation, and if Medicare isn't the right move for you yet, I'll tell you that too. I'm only paid by a carrier if you choose to enroll, and only if the plan is genuinely a fit. There's no obligation here, just information.
Can we meet in person, or is it phone only?
Both. I meet Washington clients in person around Pierce County and over the phone or video anywhere in the state. Whatever's easiest for you.
